Google’s Results about you Update: What Changed in 2026 (And How to Use the New Features)

Google upgraded “Results about you” in February 2026 with two major changes: it can now help you find and request removal of search results that expose government-issued ID numbers, and it is now easier to request removal of non-consensual explicit images from Google Search and Google Images.

What’s New in the February 2026 Update

Google announced two practical upgrades:

  1. Government-issued ID number detection
Results about you can now help you find and request removal of search results that include government-issued ID numbers, like a passport number, driver’s license number, or Social Security number.

  2. A simpler flow for non-consensual explicit images
You can start a removal request directly from an image result, submit multiple images in one request, and opt into protections that help prevent similar explicit results from resurfacing.

Update 1: Remove Government-Issued ID Numbers from Google Search

This update is built for high-risk leaks: documents, screenshots, PDFs, or pages that accidentally publish ID numbers and get indexed in Search. Google positions this as an expansion of the tool’s original focus on contact info like phone numbers and home addresses.

What counts as a government ID in this update?

Google’s examples include passport numbers, driver’s license numbers, and Social Security numbers.

How to use the new ID removal capability

  1. Open Results about you in your Google account. Google’s own announcement describes this as a hub where you can monitor sensitive info and act on matches.
  2. Add the sensitive details you want monitored, including government-issued ID numbers (where available to you).
  3. When a match is flagged, review the result and submit a removal request from the tool. Google reviews requests against its policies.

Important limitation

This removes or limits the result in Google Search, but it does not delete the information from the website that published it. If the source page stays live, it can still exist online and may appear elsewhere.

Update 2: Easier Removal Requests for Non-Consensual Explicit Images

Google also announced a streamlined process for reporting non-consensual explicit images. The biggest practical change is that you can start the request from the image result itself, instead of hunting for a separate form.

How the new removal flow works

From Google Images, you can open the image result menu and choose the removal option that indicates the image is a sexual image of you.

What’s better now

  • Batch submissions: You can report multiple images in a single request.
  • Ongoing protections: You can opt in to automatically handle future duplicates and reduce similar explicit results in future searches.
  • Central tracking: Requests can be tracked in the Results about you hub.

Who Gets These Updates?

Google describes Results about you as rolling out to users 18+ in certain markets, and you must be signed in to your Google account to use it. Availability can vary by region and feature.

For removal requests involving someone under 18, use Google’s Personal Content Removal form.

What These Updates Do Not Change

Results about you is still not a data broker removal service. It is a Google Search visibility tool. It helps you monitor and request removal of certain sensitive personal info from Search results, but it does not remove your data from every site that hosts it.

Next Step

Google’s 2026 update makes Results About You more powerful, especially for higher-risk situations like exposed ID numbers or non-consensual explicit images.
